Increase Missouri Broadband Access

I want to increase the quality and reliability of rural Missouri broadband access. I live in rural Andrew County and, although I currently have broadband access, my reception can be unreliable especially during inclement weather. I want to introduce legislation that will provide tax credits and low interest loans to any company that can improve rural Missouri broadband internet access.

The legislation I introduce will give internet service providers a 75% tax credit based on the purchase price of any new broadband equipment. This equipment can be wireless internet transmitters, broadband amplification equipment, new internet management software, or any type of broadband hardware that will improve broadband transmission. This broadband tax credit will give small internet service providers the economic incentive to invest in new broadband technology that will improve rural Missouri broadband reception.

The second part of my broadband legislation will offer low interest loans provided by the Missouri Department of Economic Development to any company that can provide increased telecommunications infrastructure. These economic development loans will have an interest rate of 2.5% and will be available to any company, including sub-contractors, that install fiber optic internet cable, mount internet amplification equipment, or the erect new towers that can elevate wireless broadband transmission equipment. These low interest loans will grant telecommunication construction companies additional financial resources to expand rural internet infrastructure.

Any company that purchases new broadband equipment and increases telecommunication infrastructure will be eligible to receive, not only the low interested loan, but also the 75% tax credit. These tax credits & low interest loan programs will offer internet service providers and telecommunications companies the financial incentives to expand broadband services to rural Missouri.

As your State Representative, I will work to bring dependable broadband access to rural Missouri.
